The US Military developed the Early Neurological Stimulation method (ENS) to enhance the performance of future military working dogs, and it has since been adopted by breeders worldwide. ENS ensures that puppies are well-handled, and studies indicate that this method offers numerous additional benefits, including improved cardiovascular performance (heart rate), stronger heartbeats, stronger adrenal glands, greater tolerance to stress and increased resistance to disease. In learning, puppies stimulated by ENS were more active and more likely to explore their surroundings than their non-stimulated littermates, according to research conducted by Breeding Better Dogs. ENS exercises are conducted once daily from the third to the 16th day, a period believed to be a time of rapid neurological growth and development. Despite being very immature during this time frame, puppies are sensitive and responsive to ENS. ENS requires handling the puppies individually while performing a series of five exercises. In order of preference, the handler starts with one puppy and stimulates it using each of the five exercises. The handler completes the series from beginning to end before starting with the next puppy.

         Early Scent Introduction was designed

to enhance a puppy's ability to react to and identify, specific scents. Early Scent Introduction is performed on puppies from day three thru day sixteen. A strong scent is introduced to the puppy each day for short intervals. Their reaction to the scent is then recorded. A positive reaction is when a puppy will try to move towards the scent with their nose highly engaged in the scent. A negative reaction will have the puppy pulling back from the scent. A neutral reaction will be when the puppy does not seem interested or disinterested.

Hip and Elbow Dysplasia are a malformation of the ball and socket joint of the hip and eblow . A dog may or may not become lame because of the disease, depending upon its severity. Hip and elbow dysplasia are said to be about 80% environmental and only about 20% genetic. Although no breeder can guarantee that a puppy will not get hip or elbow dysplasia, we are making every effort to avoid such an occurrence by only using stock that have received x-ray views and are prelim or final rated by the Orthopedic Foundation of Animals (OFA), the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) and/or the Verein für deutsche Schäferhunde (SV).

Listed above you will find a chart of different hip dysplasia registries. If you look at the chart, you can clearly see that Germanys Fast Normal is the US standard of borderline. Borderline in the US is considered unsatisfactory for breeding. Germany and other European countries however, breed dogs with Fast Normal (OFA borderline) and the grade is given at 1 year. For example, the famous 2x world champion Vegas Du Haut Mansard was rated with a " Fast normal", which is the equivalent of a borderline rating with the OFA in America, and produced amazing offspring before his passing in 2018.

Canine degenerative myelopathy (also known as DM) is a spinal cord disease. DM can result in gradual paralysis in dogs, starting in the hind legs and moving toward the front. It usually appears in dogs that are middle-aged or older.

There is no effective treatment available for DM in dogs, and no cure. In fact, the condition usually progresses to the point of euthanasia, out of concern for the dog’s quality of life. However, scientists are doing a lot of research on DM to learn more about the disease and how they might be able to treat it.

Each of our puppies will start basic training that includes luring into correct positions, clicker conditioning, kenneling training, sit, down, stay, shake etc.

If a puppy is with us longer than 8 weeks, they will continue their training based on their age, drive and energy level for as long as they are with us.

  • Black Background

Our puppies typically go home between 8 and 10 weeks old and have had their 8 week vet check up.

Deposits are placed to hold a puppy until they are ready to go to their new homes. Our deposits are non-refundable but are transferable to another litter.

Picks will be made in the order of deposits received and will be made when the puppies have had their Volhard Temperament testing done at seven (7) weeks of age at which time we will inform you of which puppies we think would be most suitable for your family and lifestyle and you will be able to choose from those puppies. If a puppy with a suitable temperament and energy level isn’t available, then you will be able to transfer your deposit to a future litter of your choice.

Yes, of course! All of our puppies will come with an eighteen-month health guarantee against any genetic conditions and hip and elbow dysplasia. If your puppy were to develop one of these conditions, we will provide a replacement puppy from a future litter. We will also take back the original puppy if needed however, we do understand that many people will have grown attached to their puppies and won't want to give them up. If you would like to keep your puppy and are able to provide them with the medical care needed, then you are more than welcome to do so; you will still receive a replacement puppy as well if desired.

Attached below is a copy of our Sales Contract & Health Guarantee.

Yes, your puppy will need to be spayed or neutered between 18 and 24 months of age. We very seldom send our puppies home with breeding rights.            No, all payments are final and non-refundable. In some cases, we will work with you for a discount on a future litter, but it is completely on a case-by-case basis and doesn't happen in all situations.

I always tell our new puppy owners to take it slow and give your puppy time to adjust to his new surroundings, he/she is likely going to be a bit nervous being taken away from his mom and siblings and going somewhere new. New puppies are a lot of work, but it is well worth it when they grow up to be great family dogs! They will need lots of time, training, love and cuddles to help them bond with their new family members.

Yes, within reason. If you need an extra week or two, we can usually accommodate that request but longer stays would be on a case-by-case basis and may include an additional fee. If you're wanting your puppy to stay long enough to finish basic training and possible titling that is sometimes an option as well and would cost an additional fee as well.

There are many options for transporting a puppy to you, whether you are out of state or are hours away and don't have the time or ability to make the drive. The transportation is the buyer's responsibility, so all costs related to the transport would be in addition to the price of the puppy. We would allow you to make transportation arrangements yourself or we can make them for you.

One option is ground transportation. Ground transportation is when a pet transport company picks up your puppy from us and delivers him/her directly to your doorstep.

The ground transportation companies that we would suggest are Sweet Briar Farm Pet Transport or Hoffman Transport LLC, you can look them up on Facebook or follow the links below!

Another option is air transportation. Air transportation is when a puppy is flown to you on an airplane. The puppy would either fly out of the Portland International Airport in Portland, Oregon or Eugene Airport in Eugene, Oregon and would be flown to the closest airport to you for you to pick up. Alaska Airlines Cargo is what we recommend for our flights out of state. A link to their guidelines and requirements is listed below.

Other options we offer are meeting halfway and delivery to nearby states such as Washington, California, Idaho etc.

There are a number of human foods that are toxic to dogs and should be avoided at all costs! For example, raw garlic, cherries, grapes, raisins, alcohol, chocolate, onions, xylitol (artificial sweetener), avocado seeds etc. If your dog accidentally ingests something toxic take them to the vet immediately! A good rule of thumb is that if you don't know if it's safe, don't give it to them.

We feed Taste of the Wild High Prairie or Tast of the Wild Pacific Stream that has been rehydrated with bone broth or warm water, as well as a small amount of raw food and bones as well. We don't do a fully raw diet with our puppies because we know most new owners won't continue the raw diet when the puppies go home, and we want to avoid any issues transitioning to another food. If you choose to feed different food when you bring your puppy home, please remember to always slowly transition the puppy with a mix of their old food and new food so it gives their stomach time to adjust. Switching too quickly can cause constipation, vomiting, diarrhea etc.

Each of our puppies is whelped and raised in our home as part of our family, where they are exposed to a wide variety of sights, sounds, smells, animals, and people. We carefully introduce them to new experiences that are age-appropriate, ensuring they develop confidence and adaptability. The early weeks of a puppy’s life play a crucial role in shaping their future, and we take every step necessary to provide an enriched environment that sets them up for success.

During the first phase of a puppy’s development—before their eyes and ears open—early touch and handling are essential. Our puppies are gently handled multiple times a day, reinforcing that human touch is a positive experience. Beginning at just three days old, we implement Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI) to enhance their resilience, cognitive abilities, and sensory development. At seven weeks old, each puppy undergoes the Volhard Temperament Test, which helps us assess their drive, energy levels, and personality traits. This evaluation allows us to make well-informed placement decisions, ensuring that each puppy is matched with a home that best suits their temperament and future needs.

At Vom Osuna, we are committed to producing well-adjusted, healthy, and confident German Shepherds. Our dedication to early socialization, enrichment, and responsible breeding ensures that every puppy is set up for a lifetime of success.
